We’re basically in Sony’s victory lap stage. At this point it’s clear who’s “won” the console generation I think, and with rumors of a 2020 launch for new hardware it’s about time to settle in, pump out the last few exclusives, and then gear up for the next battle. And that’s basically what Sony did Monday night, content to focus on the exclusives that have been its strong suit the past few years. The Last of Us Part II, Spider-Man, Death Stranding, and Ghost of Tsushima make for one hell of a lineup, even if none of it is applicable to…

One of the biggest little games shown during Microsoft’s E3 2018 conference caught me by total surprise. It’s called Tunic, a beautiful isometric action-adventure starring a cute fox as it ventures through a blocky, fantasy open-world full of mystery and secrets. I was able to get my hands on a brief portion of Tunic — previously known as Secret Legend — and I can confirm it’s cute as heck, with an excellent atmosphere of exploration and discovery. But it’s also not just a really, really pretty adventure. There’s a current of difficulty and danger that runs below the surface. When…

One of the big surprises from Microsoft’s E3 2018 conference was the reveal of not one, not two, but three new Gears of War games, in Gears Funko, Gears Tactics, and Gears 5. A day after the reveals, The Coalition’s studio head Rod Fergusson took the stage at Microsoft’s E3 edition of Inside Xbox and elaborated a bit on Gears 5, including how it compares to George Miller’s 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road. The PC Gaming Show is always my favorite E3 press conference. It usually feels one step away from disaster at all times, a far cry from the ultra-slick press conferences from Microsoft, Bethesda, and so on. But that held-together-with-twine-and-glue feel is also what makes it so charming, as our fellow enthusiasts over at PC Gamer trot out an eclectic mix of games that make the PC such an intriguing platform. This year’s highlights included Yakuza 0—yes, you read that right—and Star Control: Origins, but it’s worth scrolling through the full list of bigger announcements below and just admiring the breadth of experiences offered…
